Custom Corporate Training in Singapore: How to Brief a Provider

Custom Corporate Training in Singapore: How to Brief a Provider

Custom corporate training in Singapore is a programme built around your company's goals, your people and your workplace, instead of a fixed public course. It works best when the provider gets a clear brief first. This guide shows HR, L&D and business leaders what to customise, how to brief a provider, and what five real client programmes from The Global Brand Academy (GBA) looked like.

What is custom corporate training in Singapore?

Custom corporate training is a programme designed for one organisation. The provider starts with your business priorities, agrees what the programme should change, and then shapes the content, examples and format to fit your team. It is different from a public course, where the content is fixed and the room is mixed with people from other companies.

At GBA, this starts with four steps: understand your priorities, agree the programme, make the learning relevant to your people, and plan how the team will apply it afterwards. You can see how this works on our corporate training Singapore page.

Off-the-shelf or custom: which does your team need?

Neither is better in every case. The right choice depends on how specific your problem is and how many people need to change how they work.

If a whole sales team, leadership group or regional office needs to change how it works, a custom programme usually fits better. If one person needs a single skill, a public course may be enough.

What can you customise in a corporate training programme?

Most buyers think customisation means swapping in a company logo. The useful changes go further:

  • Content and focus: the skills and topics that match your business goal, not a generic syllabus.

  • Examples and cases: scenarios from your industry, your customers and your own workplace.

  • Audience and level: new hires, managers, senior leaders or a mix, each pitched at the right level.

  • Delivery format: a workshop or masterclass, a keynote, coaching and advisory, or certification and licensing. See the corporate training programmes we offer.

  • Where it runs: in-house at your office in Singapore, online sessions, or a regional programme across several offices.

  • Follow-up: how your team applies the learning after the session ends.

Not sure what to ask a training provider?

How do you brief a corporate training provider?

A good brief is one page. It tells the provider what problem to solve, for whom, and how you will judge the result. Use these six steps.

  1. State the business problem, not the topic. "Our new sales hires take too long to reach target" gives a provider more to work with than "we need sales training".

  2. Say who attends. Give the roles, the level, the rough group size and what they do today.

  3. Define what should change. Describe the behaviour you want to see afterwards, in words your managers could observe.

  4. Share your constraints. Include dates, location (in-house, online or across offices), language, and any funding you plan to check.

  5. Ask for a full proposal. It should set out the trainer, the content, the delivery format, the fees and the follow-up.

  6. Agree how you will check the result. Decide the measure before the session, not after. Our guide on measuring training ROI shows practical ways to do it.

What should a training proposal include?

Ask every provider for the same five items so you can compare them fairly:

  • Trainer: who will deliver, and their experience with your type of audience.

  • Content: what will be covered and how it is tailored to your team.

  • Delivery format: workshop, masterclass, keynote, coaching or certification, and whether it runs in-house, online or regionally.

  • Fees: what is included. Fees depend on topic, duration, trainer, level of customisation and delivery format.

  • Follow-up: what support your team gets to apply the learning.

If a proposal leaves out follow-up, ask why. Training that stops at the end of the session is a common reason it does not stick. We explain this in why employee training doesn't stick.

Common briefing mistakes HR and business leaders make

  • Starting with a topic. The topic is a solution. Start with the problem.

  • Briefing only HR. Include the manager who will see the team's work every day. They know where the gap is.

  • Asking for a price before the goal. A fee without a defined outcome is hard to compare.

  • Skipping the follow-up plan. Without one, the energy from the session fades within weeks.

  • Choosing on the trainer's name alone. Check that the programme fits your audience, not only that the trainer is well known.

How do you choose between corporate training providers?

types-of-corporate-training

Once you have a brief, send it to two or three providers and compare their proposals on the same five items: trainer, content, delivery format, fees and follow-up. Look for a provider who asks you questions about your team before they quote. A proposal that arrives without any questions is usually a standard course with your name on it.

For a longer checklist, see our guide on how to choose the right corporate training programme in Singapore. You can also review GBA's corporate training programmes to see the formats we run.

How much does custom corporate training cost?

Fees depend on the topic, the duration, the trainer, how much the programme is customised and the delivery format. That is why a reliable provider asks for your brief before giving a number. Compare proposals on what is included, not only on the total. Our corporate training cost in Singapore guide explains what drives the price.

Is there funding for corporate training in Singapore?

Funding depends on the course, the dates and whether your company and employees are eligible. Check this before you commit, and ask each provider what applies to their proposal. Schemes and rules change, so rely on the current official guidance. Our SkillsFuture funding guide lists what to check.

How do you measure whether training worked?

Go back to the brief. If you asked for faster ramp-up of new hires, check how quickly new hires reach their targets. If you asked for stronger leadership communication, ask managers what they now see in meetings. Pick the measure before the session and review it at agreed points afterwards. Read 7 proven ways to measure training ROI for practical methods.

How do you scale a programme beyond one team?

If the programme works, you can extend it. Some companies repeat it with new groups. Others want their own people to run it, which is where certification and licensing come in. The Lazada and BASF examples above show two routes: a licensed internal platform, and Train-the-Trainer certification across many countries. Frequently asked questions

What is custom corporate training?

Custom corporate training is a programme designed around one organisation's goals, audience and workplace, instead of a fixed public course. The provider shapes the content, examples and format to fit your team.

How is custom training different from a public course?

A public course has fixed content and a mixed audience from different companies. A custom programme is built for your own team, uses examples from your business, and can include follow-up after the session.

What formats can custom corporate training take?

Common formats are a workshop or masterclass, a keynote, coaching and advisory, and certification and licensing. GBA delivers these in-house in Singapore, as online sessions, or as regional programmes across several offices.

How much does custom corporate training cost in Singapore?

Fees depend on the topic, duration, trainer, level of customisation and delivery format. A proposal from the provider should set out the fees and what they include. See our cost guide for more.

Can custom corporate training be funded in Singapore?

It can depend on the course, the dates and your eligibility. Check the current official guidance and ask the provider what applies. Our funding guide explains what to look for.

How do you know if custom training worked?

Compare results against the goal in your brief. Choose the measure before the training starts, and review it at agreed points afterwards.
